A conventional thought harbored amongst fresh and old graduates is always how difficult it is getting a job. There is the embarrassing economic situation of the country which compounds job availability. Yet, I believe there are many other reasons most youths do not get employed. I, for one , never imagined I would get a job immediately after school, but I did. Here are six tips on how to land your desired job based on my own personal experience.

1. SUBSCRIBE TO VACANCY NEWSLETTERS:

So many companies have a section on their website where you can subscribe to their mail list to enable you  stay up to date with the latest available  vacancies . There are also websites whose main activity is to post latest available vacancies such as jobberman, job.naij.com among so many others. Do well to sign up with them all.

2.  BE EMPLOYABLE

So many people keep applying to jobs they were never eligible for .Having the pre-requisite skills before applying  and being eligible for a job gives you an edge above so many others. Professional positions that relates to disciplines like engineering, accountancy, medicine and so many others requires you to have proof of extensive training and certified educational background . If you are an engineer nothing should attract you towards a vacancy for an accountant.

3. RESEARCH YOUR POTENTIAL EMPLOYER

Understanding what your potential employer wants from you is an imperative step to achieving your desired job. Research questions like; does the job requirements, descriptions and the company's culture collocate with me? What are they really looking for in an employee? Most private and public companies now have websites loaded with the company’s information and contact details. You can easily find what you are looking for this way.

4. NEVER LET OPPORTUNITIES PASS YOU BY-

Your CV must always be on the go, ready to be mailed or uploaded at any given time. Never let opportunities pass you by.  Apply for as many jobs as possible. Do not make the mistake of feeling relieved after getting a call back, because there might be several other stages yet to be fulfilled which might get you eliminated. Being ignorant or negligent will never get you what you are looking for. The higher the number of applications you send. The higher your chance of getting one. No harm just gain.

5. SIGN UP FOR A LINKEDLN ACCOUNT
Back when i was doing my industrial training, I had a colleague who got a job at Saudi Aramco through his Linkedln networking profile.Linkedln is a social networking site designed specifically for the business community. The goal of the site is to allow registered members to establish and document networks of people they know and trust professionally.

6. BE PREPARED FOR WHAT IS COMING
There are several stages that you  may be challenged  with in recruitment processes .All these vary according to company structure  and policies. Be prepared for a test .It can come in the form of oral, written or creative works depending on what you applied for. Bring along all necessary documents or tools that will help you facilitate this.
